Fairies and Trolls! Pupils are encouraged to explore the woodland to examine habitats: leaf litter, wood stacks, logs, burrows, tree canopy to discuss where different animals and insects live and talk about why they like to live in particular habitats. Pupils are then encouraged to examine the natural materials around them to construct little fairy/troll houses that will remain in our woods after they leave. Pupils will need to think about how to construct their houses, size, shape, what materials to use, how to decorate them, what is needed in the interior etc.
Artists Treasure Trail Pupils can explore the gardens and grounds and collect natural materials that will enable them to create their own masterpiece. Pupils can take inspiration from the gardens and house or create their own design. This encourages pupils to think about which materials are suitable for creating their artwork, colour, and composition. Designs can be taken back to school and used to create a ‘natural artists gallery’.
Nature Number Trail Pupils collect items by number. Suggestions are written on plants labels for pupils to select. The plant labels have instructions such as ‘collect 3 leaves’, ‘collect 6 twigs’, ‘find 4 small stones’. After the collection, another set of plants labels has instructions for how to use the items collected. For example, ‘make a triangle’, ‘create a repeating pattern’. Pupils will need to discuss which collection items are the most suitable for use for each instruction.
Menu Design – ‘Food! Glorious Food!’ Pupils will need to explore the walled fruit and vegetable garden to design their own three course menu. Pupils will need to identify various fruit and vegetables in order to create their menu. They need to consider which items are available from the garden and which items they would have to purchase from elsewhere. Pupils should design a starter, main course, desert and a drink with each course containing items grown at Narborough Hall. Pupils should aim to use fruit, vegetables and herbs in each course.

Plant Trail This activity requires pupils to identify plants growing in the gardens and consider how they grow and what they produce. A series of questions directs pupils to consider how plants grow and how fruit and vegetables and produced and used. (to follow)
Maths Trail This activity focus on themes of shapes, symmetry, number, patterns and measurement. Using the courtyard and the walled garden.
Plant Alphabet Pupils to identify plants by names for each letter of the alphabet and categorising them into trees, flowing plants, fruit, vegetables and herbs.
Something to grow… Pupils can come into the greenhouse to plant up something to take home. Pupils will need to consider what plants and seeds need in order to grow, how to care for them. Identifying the different parts of a plant. Pupils can then write and decorate a label.
Landscape Art Narborough Hall gardens offer an ideal opportunity for pupils to create their own masterpiece. This activity requires pupils to consider a range of artistic principles such as location, subject, level of detail, materials, colour and form. This activity allows pupils to choose their own subject matter and create individual work.
