Spring 2012

We had a great start to the New Year with a feature on the garden in Country Life Magazine. Clive Nichols photography was beautiful and it was a privilege to be featured.

Our season starts with Bob Levers popular willow workshops in March. We still have a few places available on the Willow Support workshop but the 13th March Bird Sculpture is now full. Booking for Spring 2013 workshops will open in April.

The Gardens open on Easter Sunday and we will also be open on Easter Monday. There will be chocolate eggs hidden all around the grounds for children to find and we will be serving a lovely Easter afternoon tea in the café. If you would like to reserve a table for either lunch or tea please e-mail or leave a phone message.

We have planted lots of new bulb varieties this year and some very interesting tulips so spring is going to be exciting and colourful. The white garden is already full of overwintering seedlings and Mandy direct sowed some sweetpeas in the Autumn. So far they have survived and we are hoping for strong and early sweet peas for our wedding bouquets and café posies.

Our shop will also be opening again on Easter Weekend and will be filled with eccentric and unusual textiles, vintage china and handmade gifts. Come early if you want to see our exciting new stock!

We open for the national garden scheme again this year, three dates, wed 6th, sun 10th and wed 13th June. If you have a few hours to spare on any of these dates we are looking for volunteers to help in the café and gardens.

We are very sad to say that dear Wendy who ran our printmaking workshops with so much care and kindness has died from cancer. She took part in two summer exhibitions here and in the short time we knew her she shone like a luminous halo round a summer sun, soft, ethereal and gentle. She will be very missed.

We are also opening our Gardens on Sun June 4th and Mon June 5th for the Pink Ribbon foundation. We are having a pink rose themed afternoon tea party on Monday afternoon in the marquee on our front lawn. The event will begin with music and a glass of rose prosecco on the lawn followed by traditional afternoon tea served on vintage rose themed china. Everyone will receive a small garden posy to take home. Tickets will be £10 and can be booked individually or by table. A table seats 8 people. If you have someone special in your party that you would like to treat, then, for an extra donation of £20 we can design a lovely hand tied pink ribbon bouquet for them to receive when they arrive at the table.

We are looking for committed garden volunteers for the new season so if you have some time and would like to learn more about gardening, we can team you up with a member of our garden staff to help you gain new skills and knowledge.

We are also looking for a permanent member for our gardening team and will be advertising in February for a keen vegetable gardener to work 2 days a week. The applicant must be physically fit, have kitchen garden experience, love food and be a good communicator. If you are interested in this position please contact us for more details.

We wish you all a happy, healthy and sunny spring.

Joanne, Bob, Bev, Rocky, Mandy and Mandy.
