When we make art I believe we are celebrating part of our world. I refute the notion of being ‘bad’ at drawing. It is as personal as handwriting and we just need to have the courage to relax into the task and then interesting marks start to appear – it is an extension of the heartbeat.

Similarly colour is part of life and linked closely to the emotions. The Impressionists understood this, they found colours in the shadows, not darkness. Their paintings shimmered with light. Monet in particular made use of vibrant colour to bring his canvasses to life, finding, as we will, his inspiration in the world of nature.
