The restored walled kitchen garden is a great joy to all who visit. It is enjoyed by school children who come to sow seeds and harvest produce, by horticultural students and garden groups who come to learn how a vegetable garden worked historically, and how it is used today. It provides fruit, vegetables and cut flowers for the cafe, and is managed organically. Our head gardener, Bob Lever, is a rare source of gardening wisdom and experience. He works in sympathy with the natural world making places for birds, butterflies, bees and beetles in the vegetable beds and the fruit cage. We frequently have tasting sessions in the garden when visitors can try varieties of apples, stawberries and pumpkins.
