“Man is but a Bubble” at Narborough Hall, is a site specific
exhibition by a group of seven artists: Linda Britt, Karin Forman,
Wendy George, Annette Inwood, Eileen Meakin, Sarah Pink and Diana
Stickley. The title stems from an inscription “Homo Bulla”, attributed
to Varro (116-27BC), which was placed on the frieze in the main
bedroom, in 1581. |

Since it opened to the public in the summer of 2003, Narborough Hall has hosted exhibitions by internationally recognised artists including Barry Flanagan, Bridget Riley and Ivon Hitchens. While Flanagan’s sculptures of leaping hares animated the seventy acres of parkland that surround the house, paintings and smaller works have been exhibited in a series of rooms on the ground floor of the Hall that are converted into gallery space during the summer.
Last year it wais the turn of Andy Warhol (1928-1989), who was, arguably, the most influential artist of his generation, the father of Pop Art, and a creator and reflector of images, that made him a lightning conductor for the zeitgeist of the artworld from the 1960s, for a whole generation. This was a rare opportunity to see a large exhibition of his work in Eastern England and the collection included unique drawings, silkscreens and works which combime both media - as in the 'Vesuvius' works of 1985.

There is a large and engaged audience in East Anglia who come from all over the region to see the exhibitions and gardens.
