Creative Writing

On 14 May we are holding our first Creative Writing/Poetry Workshop. This intensive day course is suitable for anyone interested in writing poetry, whatever their level of experience. Throughout the day we will look at examples of contemporary poetry in order to gain a deeper understanding of what is being read and appreciated today. We will undertake a series of unusual and thought-provoking writing exercises which will help us to develop and enhance our poetic skills, particularly imagery and form. Using the beautiful natural environment of Narborough as a source of inspiration, we will also discuss how focusing on specifics and using language economically can give even greater meaning to what we wish to express poetically.

Students should bring: pen and paper.

Tutor: Sue Burge

Sue Burge has been teaching creative writing for over 15 years. Formerly at the University of East Anglia, she is currently a lecturer for the Open University and also teaches local Adult Education classes. Her poems and short stories have been published in several magazines and anthologies. She is interested in how poetry taps into the susbconscious and enjoys helping students to find new ways to express themselves.

Cost: £60 (includes lunch and refreshments)

Photography

As from 18 May 2010 and throughout the summer we are intending to run early morning photography sessions in the gardens and parks at Narborough Hall under the expert guidance of our resident photographer David Hennesey. David will be on hand to offer technical advice which will include close up and landscape photography.

We meet at the car park by 7.00 am and during the first half of the morning we will concentrate on close up photography in the Main and Walled Garden. From mid morning we will explore the lake, river and surrounding parkland looking for interesting subjects to photograph. We conclude at 12 noon when light refreshments will be available David likes to keep the groups small, between three to five people, and primary his role is to be on hand to offer guidance and technical advice.
